Done and done on the reinstall. Thanks much for your help. How have I lived without WinDiff until now?

Yikes! I was afraid you were going to say that. I wish I'd kept a log of which files I changed, other than the templates. Do you happen to know of any (free) utility that will do a byte comparison of similarly named files in parallel directory structures? (I'm running WinXP.) Something like that (or ...

Yep, same thing. BTW, I'm also getting this message on the 403 page:

So I develop my lovely PMF installation locally. Then I go to upload....

Thanks again, Thorsten. Forgot to ask, in response to your first reply:
Using the table prefix method with a single database, would I be able to have different, mutually exclusive categories display in each "area"? Would I be able to have different templates (e.g., two versions of main.tpl)?
Even ...

And the server?
Thanks for the quick reply, Thorsten?
Do you know of any possible server issues? I can't give you any configuration details right now.

Is it possible to install two instances of PMF on one site?
If I have one instance of PMF in a subdirectory:
www.mysite.com/subfolder1/PMFinstance1/
is it possible for me to install another?
www.mysite.com/subfolder2/PMFinstance2/
There would of course be a separate database with a different name.

Never mind, I found it...
In functions.php, I just removed the ellipsis from the line
$shortStr .= "...";
I was worried that this line:
$str = ereg_replace("[[:space:]]+", " ", $str);
would create a trailing space at the end of the link, but it doesn't seem to have happened (at least in Firefox and IE). Here's the ...

Removing three dots / ellipsis in newest and topten display
What's the best way to go about removing the trailing three dots (ellipsis: ...) that are added to the trimmed content titles in the {writeNewestRow} and {writeTopTenRow} outputs?
Thanks,
Ed

Okay, that makes sense. (My entire understanding of PHP at the moment is based on puzzling things out logically. I really need to study this.)
I'm still not sure which of the two (?) snippets you provided goes in which of the files involved (index.php, index.tpl, main.php, main.tpl), but I'm going ...

Yes and no
Well, it's hard to say. The basic structure is correct. But the problem is only apparent if you actually call the image in the upper right corner (or perhaps just change the background color of the image td), and then compare it in the browser with the original site's header -- and that's exactly ...

Here's index.php (without the changes you suggested; that is, pretty much out-of-the-box):

I'm amazed at the level of support you provide
Thorsten, in looking through the forums the last couple of days after downloading PMF, I've been greatly impressed by how helpful you are to users. It's one of the reasons I've decided to try using PMF. Du bist ein mensch -- or however one says you're a real standup guy, as they used to say here in ...
