Problem upgrade 2.7.8 to 2.9

Hallo,
I changed server, installed 2.7.8 with its old database and works fine.
All my tries to upgrade to 2.9 however were unsuccesful
1) Delete folders as suggested in documentation however setup/update.php not running, only possible to set up a new installation (if I enter the old db is not working)
2) Tried to install a fresh 2.9 and import db by phpmyadmin , problem overwriting admin autoincremental

At the moment I have the old version running fine www.sangimignanohotels.net/faqs but still don't know how to upgrade

Hi Ema,

do you use "mysql" instead of "mysqli" in your database.php?
