Internal Server Error (http error 500) reported after update
Hi There,
I'm getting "Internal Server Error" reported in the browsers (error 500) but nothing in server logs after upgrading from 2.6.17 to 2.7.0. Tested on two different machines with same results:
Machine 1: Scientific Linux 6.1, PHP 5.3.3, Apache 2.2.15, mysql 5.1.52, phpmyfaq 2.6.18
Machine 2: Centos 5 32 bits, PHP 5.2.10 (from centos-testing), Apache 2.2.3, mysql 5.1.77, phpmyfaq 2.6.17
Both of them running flawlessly with PHPMYFAQ 2.6.17.... I've had to downgrade and restore original 2.6.17/2.6.18 installations/databases after unsuccessful 2.7.0 upgrade attempt.
Followed all update recommendations as stated in the documentation, but after updating to 2.7.0 I just get blank pages and error 500. Nothing on apache error log or PHP logs... just the browser say the same... "Internal Server Error" (error 500). Tested on chrome, internet explorer, firefox, last versions and in windwos and linux workstations.
I did also the following test: In both servers I've installed phpmyfaq "from scratch" with a different database (from the ones running 2.6.17). Both servers ran perfectly with the new 2.7.0 in all the test... It is just the "update" that fail in both machines (the data is different in both servers).
I did activate the debug mode and included the files with some information...
For now I stuck with 2.6.17/2.6.18
EXTRA NOTE: I did not keep the original "template" from 2.6.x, but if I do (instead of using the new one based on html5) I can see at least the front page with my articles/categories/news....
EDIT: Attached some files with debug information

Attached the current "faqconfig" (_faqconfig table) from one of the servers (the centos 5.6 one running phpmyfaq 2.6.17)
I forgot to mention another test I did. I repeated the update in the centos 5.6 server... the page initially showed ok (no error 500) and I could log in.. the software detected my browser language on "English", but as soon as I changed to spanish (the server faqs, news, categories are in spanish) the problem happend again (error 500)... weird !!
In the other server both the detected language and the faqs/categories/news/etc. are in english so the problem (error 500) happend as soon as the upgrade was completed.

Hi,
the configuration has some old values. Do you ran the update.php script?

Every time I upgrade the phpmyfaq version I run the update.php from the browser (I always do a backup first of both the web server and the database) but as the update from 2.6.17 to 2.7.0 failed, I had to restore everything from the backup. What I sent to you is the current, 2.6.17 based, config !.
This config I've sent to you is from a production server that I cannot touch very often without some procedures first (aka: change management).
But, I have more freedom with the other server (the SL6.1 based)... do you want me to try again the upgrade with that one and sent to you the configuration ??.. I will be on the site where that server is this afternoon (it is almost 11am now here in my country).
Apart from the table you requested, what other information do you need me to extract from the server ??
Best regards,
Reynaldo Martinez P.

As soon as I reach the other site where the server is located (in about 6 hours) I'll try again the upgrade and get the faqconfig after the update.php. Anyway, I'll see if I can get permission to try the update again in the centos 5.6 server and if so, I'll send to you the faqconfig after the update.

I could repeat the update process with the centos 5.6 server !. After I performed the update (following all procedures including update.php) I could see the front page "on english", but as soon as I changed to spanish (categories and news are in spanish), "boom"... error 500 !!...
I could do the faqconfig dump before I had to rollback again to 2.6.17. Pls find it attached here !!.

Re: Internal Server Error (http error 500) reported after up
Ok I'll give it i try today and let you know the results, but.... why the other server (in english, with all content in english too) is having the same "500 error" after update to 2.7.0 ??... the english languaje is broken too ???. Also, why when I use the "default template" from version 2.6.17/18 I can see the contents, both in english and spanish ??Thorsten wrote:Hi,

Hi,
the English file is okay. This could be another issue. Do you access with a Spanish browser?

No more error 500 here (english browser, but changed to spanish on the phpmyfaq front page), but there are two more issues... attached screenshoots here..
First issue: The spanish text is not wrapping correctly in both chrome and firefox (last versions). I think the font is maybe too big for spanish language. No big deal though.. Just tell me where can I modify the font size on the default template ??
Second issue: Cannot login in Firefox. Every time I click on "login", nothing happens (the login box does not expand). Firefox 7.0.1
This afternoon I'll try something else on the other server (the SL6 one)... I think the problem was "always" the spanish languaje file.... all the workstations on the SL6 server site have "spanish windows" with "spanish browser"... I think after the 2.7.0 upgrade the FAQ detected the browser languaje and switched automatically to "spanish" without giving me the oportunity to switch back to english... and "error 500" happened.. your question "Do you access with a Spanish browser" make me think again on it !!.
I'll try this afternoon in the SL6 server, but the "cannot login" in firefox issue is still a show stopper for me

Hi,
I think the Spanish file needs an update to shorten the text links in the navigation. I cannot reproduce your Firefox issue...

I'll try this afternoon in the SL6 server again (site 2) and see if the firefox issue show's again.. By the moment I had to rollback in site one (centos 5.6 server) to 2.6.17, but as the site 2 is really "all in english" is not a problem to do the update to 2.7.0 as no one will use the spanish language there !.... Of course I'll let you know all my results !!.
One question: The changes on the spanish file are related to the text itself ?? (mean: the translation ??)... maybe I can help (my original language is spanish).. if what you need is to shorten the text, I can do the modifications and send back to you the language file !!.. it's that ok for you ??
Thanks for all the help !!

Re: Internal Server Error (http error 500) reported after up
Hi there,
I tested again on site two (the SL6 server, with phpmyfaq in english) and everything OK (could do the update using the new "spanish language php file"). Also, I was able to reproduce the "login box not showing" error I commented before. It happens that both servers (site 1 centos 5.6 and site 2 sl6) are multihomed (two NIC's, one for the internal services, one for the public services) and for some reason when I call the phpmyfaq pages from Firefox (last version) with out "http" the login box never expands... but when I use "https", the login box expands OK. Normally, my users on site 1 use phpmyfaq without https, but I instructed them to use https from now to avoid the "login box not expanding" issue.
I'll try to use the firefox developer console to see the specific error when I use firefox with http (not https) and post it here in the forum !!
About site 1, it will have to wait until the spanish language php is changed so the navigation bar (the black one with orange text) wraps correctly and does not mess with the rest of the page
Best regards,
RRMP.-
