Category Management: Adding significant power to software

Post by bigassgrin »

This great software can benefit signficantly by reformatting how new questions and records are added.

Currently, when adding new questions, content or records you must use one pull down menu to select a category from the entire list of main categories and subcategories. Consequently, the category list must be kept small so that it is as easy as possible to find the correct category. A reasonable number to use is no more than 30 in total.

However, if the category selection process included three pull down menus for the person to:
1 - choose the main category
2 - choose the first subcategory level
3 - choose the second subcategory level and beyond

Then, the number of reasonable categories to create and navigate during the process of generating new questions and records would increase to over 27,000 (= 30x30x30).

This is a simple indexing trick that would make take this software to the next level.

Many thanks to all the developers that support phpMyFAQ. You are doing a fabulous job!

Hi,

nice idea. With version 1.6.0 you can add a user to the category so that this user can only add a record for one category. :-)
