Category and Articles Ordering

Post by valentin »

Hi everybody, and good job for the phpMyFAQ team.
I've got a suggestion about ordering categories and articles in the admin panel.

Actually in the version 1.6 and 2.0RC, ordering only allows admin to reverse position between 2 categories or articles.

Could you make an ordering code like "up" "down" ?

thx a lot have a good day

I know this is kind of an old thread so I don't know if this is in the works yet but, besides being able to order Categories to any position it would be nice if you could do the same thing with sub-categories, perhaps even move them into another category, or even make them a main category.

You could probably do something like this by making it so that when trying to move a sub-category, you could have a selector to "make this category a main category" or "make this category a child of" XXX.

For instance, let's say you have the following categories (-) and sub-categories (-- or ---) setup ...
-Main1
-Main2
-Main3
--Sub10
--Sub11
-Main4

Now let's say I want to make Sub10 a child of Main2. After the change it would look like this ...
-Main1
-Main2
--Sub10
-Main3
--Sub11
-Main4

Now, let's say I want to make Sub11 a child of Sub10, a sub-category under another sub-catefory. After the change it would look like this ...
-Main1
-Main2
--Sub10
---Sub11
-Main3
-Main4

Am I being clear on this?

Hi,

you can do this by cut&paste in the category administration.

Hi Thorsten,

Are you saying that i can do this without losing any of the FAQs in a category? In other words, I can move a sub-category to a different Main Category if I need to and not lose anything in the move? If so, I'm not sure how I would go about doing that. Can you explain?

Hi,

yes, you're not losing the FAQs in the category. All records will be also moved.

Hi Thorsten,

OK, I guess I just haven't used it enough yet to figure out how to do that, but I guess I'll see if I can figure out how to do that.

Thanks,
ZP
