Category management

I'm in the process of reorganizing our category structure and I must say this is a pain. I want to sort the categories alphabetically but they were entered in a random order. I find I must exchange each category in the precise order, one step at a time. This is made more difficult because the UI doesn't show me the correct name of the category I'm moving.

If I attempt to reorder the following categories:

x
b
c
z
a

I must swap "a" with "a". Then swap "a" with "x". However, the UI tells me I am moving "b" or "c" (not sure if there is a pattern here) when I am actually moving "a".

It would be nice to have a sort function built in or at least a drag and drop interface.

It appears the UI always tells me I am swapping the category that is first on the list.
