Install script not running. New site, need help.

Install script not running. I'm a complete newbie at this. I'm not a sys admin or programmer, just a semi-reasonable script kiddie.

I downloaded phpmyfaq tar file from the official site, uploaded it using cpanel. Extracted files using cpanel extract. Files went to subdirectory /faq/phpmyfaq-2.7.3 so I just moved them all to /faq directory.

My php info is here: http://noro.com.au/phpinfo.php if you want to check compatibility issues. Seems OK to me but I'm no expert.

If I try to run the install script for phpmyfaq ver 2.7.3 from my browser: noro.com.au/faq/install/setup.php and I just get a 404 page error.

My faq directory has 0777 permissions. Other permissions seen in attachment.

I am also no expert in php setup. But maybe your request is lacks of information. Could you give us some information about your server (Apache setup)? Is a simple HTML file running in your FAQ folder?

Not sure about Apache. I am on a shared hosting server and only have cPanel access. I posted the link to phpinfo so someone with the required knowledge can see what environment I'm working in.

Yes, read through it a few times before resorting to the first post.

I suspect something basic is wrong but I do not have the skills to recognise what the problem is.

Yes. This file path/file exists in cPanel -> public_html/faq/install/setup.php

I try to run the setup file by entering http://noro.com.au/faq/install/setup.php into my browser.

FYI, entering http://noro.com.au/faq/install/index.html gets to the page that says run the setup so I figure my structure is OK.

I have Wordpress multisite installed in the root directory but didn't think this would make a difference.

Could it have anything to do with moving directories after unzipping them? The package unzipped to a sub directory in faq so I just moved them all up one level to the faq directory.

UPDATE: I did another clean installation on a different domain and it just worked!

I'll just delete phpmyFAQ on the first domain and redo it a little later. Now that the other test domain is working I'll tinker around in there.

Thanks anyway for your help. It is one of the reasons I'm staying with phpmyFAQ. I have an older version on a website that needs updating hence my looking in here again.

FYI, a wordpress plugin module is sure to be a hit. I've searched widely for a wordpress equivalent and there is none with the capabilities of phpmyfaq. You could have a lite free version and a more powerful paid version.

cool, that it works now. The error page is from WordPress, maybe there's s problem with the rewrite rules of WordPress when using phpMyFAQ in a sebfolder...
