Session logs ...

Post by jazcyk » Tue Oct 11, 2005 10:39 am

I understand that the session logs as of now are text files (one for each day) in the /data directory. Takes quite a lot of diskspace as the faq has been online for some months. And session logs several months old are not interesting.

I can delete the files, but then the # of days shown probably (?) gets wrong (does it really count the number of files ?). I could also replace them with empty filea. But that is quite a lot of work!

I request that 1.6 will have an entry 'FAQ-start' in the database. And that Admin Panel has a facility to "clear (or delete) old session logs".

Actually I would prefer the session logs to be data in the database itself. As we run own own decicated server that would be the best for us. But users running their database in a "shared envireonment" (an ISP) that have limited database space, probably have another point of view on that.

Now I have had my "ask question" facility spammed twice. Once with porn/viagra adds - once with childish rubbish. A good database design for the session data would make it much easier to research on the users responsible for that! The (php-based) admin panel is slow and has the functions only coded into it, but if everything was in the database in a documented schema, any Database Client (such as our own SQLyog program) could be used.

Hi,

the number of days were calculated from the database.
I request that 1.6 will have an entry 'FAQ-start' in the database. And that Admin Panel has a facility to "clear (or delete) old session logs".
That's a good idea!

Logging into the database isn't a good idea, so we don't change this.

I seem to have lost track of this purge old session logs issue and solution. I have a pretty large file now is there an easy way to delete other then manualy deleting them?
