Add category view to main page

I tried to add the list of all categories into the main view but I failed.

I tried to insert the content (parts) from catandtag.tpl and overview.tpl into the main.tpl.
But neither worked.

what do you mean by "main view"? Instead of the news?

I mean the first page with the news.
And I want to see the search summary (because it is useful)
All categories (that is missing now)
and followed by the news.
