[2.8.x multi site] metasearch - doubt or proposal

Dear Thorsten Rinne / Development Team

phpMyFAQ's 2.8.x series implements the "multi site" feature - very useful, but in some circumstances harder to administrate (if hosted on a third party webserver).

The designation "multi site" implies "separate/independent sites" (implemented in a tree with phpMyFAQ as root folder).

This feature could be used to
  • split complex sites - by category,...
  • tie an administrator to one or more categories on separate (sub)sites - avoiding changes, deletions,..., of FAQs administrated by others;
  • ...
In these cases, it would be very useful (or essential) to allow the search of records in all of these sites - in reality split of the main site.

So,
  • phpMyFAQ's current version allows this kind of search? (we suppose that the answer is no);

    if not, are you planning to include metasearch features as described above? - we think that it would be very useful.
..
Kind regards

nope, it doesn't support this kind of search. Currently there's no plan to extend the multisite feature because we almost got no feedback from our users yet.

We think that the current multi site implementation is more ISP, hosting provider,..., directed - and being recent, lead to “no feedback from our users yet”.

Our experience - and posts from other users – is more focused, e.g.,
  • on avoiding actions on records that don't belong to an administrator
  • and on organize top categories in folders (in the case of a site with deep levels of categories - while not being a good practice, there are several examples).
A “multi site” structure could be a way to achieve this purpose – with the side-effect of segmenting the FAQ's DBs in independent (and smaller) files.

Do you have a date for a phpMyFAQ release with record/category administrator restricted bound?
..
Kind regards

Hi,

we plan a 2.9 release ahead of the bigger 3.0 to add the most wished features, remove unused features and prepare the code base for 3.0. We could add something like this. Would be cool if you can send me your wishes by e-mail so I can check what's possible for 2.9
