altering template/index.html

Post by MommaSuperstar »

I logged into my ftp server on my webbrowser and found the file needed to customize my template (template/index.html).... I pretty much understand how I'm supposed to alter settings there to get the customizations that I want (from Documentation)... however, I can't edit the information I see. How do I actually physically edit the information I'm seeing?? :?:

One thing Iknow is that... I can copy and paste the script into Notepad and alter it there. But then what?? How do I actaully get that edited script back into my actual file online?? Do I need some type of editor that can upload the script back to my file?? For some reason everyone seems to get how to do this automatically but me, lol, no one every specifically ask about it.

Hi,

just copy all templates files and the style.css with FTP on your PC and then you can edit everything you want. After that just copy the edited files back on your server.

OK, now I have a new problem...

Post by MommaSuperstar »

OK, I copied the template folder and style.css files to my computer, used a great css editor to change the two style.css files (one in the main phpMyFAQ folder and the other in the Template folder), but nothing happened as far as my style changes taking place (such as font color changes and background color changes), my phpMyFAQ still looks the same on my site (except for a few preliminary changes I've been able to play with and make successful... like adding my logo to the index.tpl file and seeing it on the site).

I was able to view what the changes I made to the style.css file "should" look like with my changes to the style.css file with my css editor, but none of those changes can be seen on my site. Why isn't anything happening?? :?

Changing colors isn't what really concerns me. What I would like to do is add a background image, in this case one that gives it a papyrus look. Makes it real easy to read and is easier on the eyes. Is there a way, which I assume there is, to add a background image???

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

sure. You can add a background image in the colors.css file as well.

Thorsen,

Can I now ask a stupid question? Where in the color.css (and I guess how) can I add a background image??? I have done almost no playing around with .css files, so I am not overly comfortable with just going into it and adding code. Believe it when I say that I save the original file before I do anything. And with good reason!

GOT IT!

Post by azism »

Got it! Took some research into .css, but I have it now. One thing I had to figure out on my own was the css colors interfere with backgrond images, for whatever reason.

Thanks for you help!
