Custom footer?

Hello

I am looking to add a custom footer to my phpmyfaq pages - I tried putting the HTML code in multiple places in the "index" template with no luck.

I want the footer to be centered at the bottom of the page, but when I ad the code under the content/copywrite area the footer overlaps the content on the navigation bar on the left hand side - how can I create a footer that will stay centered at the bottom fo the page and not obstruct anything else?
