you could try to create a new database with UTF-8 encoding and you should use unicode client encoding.
How do I know whether the current database is using UTF-8 encoding, and if not, how do I create one? You know that your installation guide doesn't cover the part about creating a database for ...

Tried 2.6.7 (update from 2.6.6) and 2.6.5 (new install with new DB table), either works.

I've got the same problem, except my phpMyFAQ 2.6.6 is not an upgrade, but a brand new install with a newly created database table.
