simply removed the old version.

Wanted to post a note about an anomaly I've just confirmed.

This AM I performed an upgrade from 2.8.3 to 2.8.5 using the Softaculous tool and
it ran successfully. Or, so it appeared.

I just revisited the Control Panel and determined that
