Updgrading from 1.6.12 to 2.0.1

Hi

I'm confused. I see the instructions for upgrading from v.1.6.12. Two problems:

1. The instructions tell me to delete all files except data.php & config.php in directory inc/ and all files in the template/ directory.
Is this to be done *before* unpacking and uploading the v. 2.0.1 files?

If so, won't these original files get overwritten when uploading the 2.0.1 files?

Do I leave the other directories and just delete the files in them?

2. The instructions then say to run http://www.example.com/faq/install/update.php ... but there's no such file in the version I've just downloaded!

Please could you help me, I'd rather upgrade than do a fresh install.

yes.

no.

You shouldn't delete the directories with the images or PDFs.

The update.php file is in the folder install/.
