Bug-v.2.6-2.7b-export to PDF problem in MS Windows and Linux - with problem mitigation reference

Dear Thorsten

We – unfortunately - have the “Export to PDF” phpMyFAQ’s button on our site disabled due to problems with the generated files.
The cause of this may (or not) be the same of the recent post “exporting to pdf”.

There is a small difference between PDF files downloaded/read on MS Windows and on Linux (Fedora 14 in the examples).
There is also a difference in the behavior of the programs used to read the files.

It is possible to have a PDF file with readable content (it seems to be a font-related issue).

Note: there is an attached file with 8 screenshots.

• MS Windows
  • Characters are displayed as Unicode placeholders, making content unreadable (screenshot 1 – in this case using PDF-XChange Viewer).

  • However, the document’s area occupied by the FAQ’s article link is active and opens the correct URL.
  • Using Adobe (Acrobat) Reader, a warning dialog box appears informing the user that there is a font missing (offering the option to download it from Adobe’s site).
  • Installing the missing font makes the text readable (but with “formatting” issues).
• Fedora 14
  • Using the “evince” reader, text in the PDF document is rendered with some “formatting” problems (due to font substitution - screenshot 5)

So,

• does the phpMyFAQ’s PDF creator (TCPDF) require a specific font or is it just a configuration problem?
• Is it caused by the PDF version used in the files (1.7)?

A suggestion/proposal: may you add the “Subject” and “Keyword” information in the PDF file? - it already has the “Title” and “Author” references. Perhaps using the phpMyFAQ “fields” “description” (or “category”) and “keywords”?
