lost access to top 10, last 5, show all categories, users

Post by stevewil »

hi, all:

We've had great success and a lot of fun with phpMyFAQ. We use it as our university Blackboard portal to handle most common student and faculty issues that occur when using Blackboard.

This morning, I awoke to find that a number of basic features no longer seemed to be functioning including access to categories and questions (most important), top 10, last 5, show all categories, # of users online. We were using version 1.3.6.

I went to the MySQL database and checked to see if everything was working there. No problems that were obvious were found. Just in case, I optimized all tables.

Then, I updated phpMyFAQ to version 1.3.10. Thankfully, the upgrade worked out the most pressing problem: we had access to categories and questions restored. But we are still without top 10, last 5, show all categories, # of users online. Have a look at http://toro.csudh.edu.

How might we troubleshoot this problem? Keep in mind, we have made no changes to core functions of the software. We did change out default templates for our own templates (which we haven't tampered with since we originally installed 1.3.6) and we made a minor change to index.php to make the login button appear. But other than that, we have fresh 1.3.10 code.

We've started and stopped MySQL a number of times and we rebooted the machine.

I'm really perplexed. Any ideas would be helpful. BTW, I can read some German if it is really simple.

Thanks a bunch from Los Angeles.

solution found!

We did some investigation of the server and found out that one of our cron tabs to backup our systems had been mistakenly set to repeat on the hour causing our root hd to fill up to 100% capacity. We moved the errant files out of the way and now all is back to normal. Oh, well..., at least we're now upgraded to 1.3.10!! Keep up the good work, fellahs...

adieu from LA for now...
