Alphabetic sorting in sub-sub categories

Post by andersnielsen »

Hi there,

I'm a very happy user of phpMyFAQ - it does the job, it's efficient and works like a charm. Unfortunately, I've found one issue that I'm not directly able to sort out myself, and would love some pointers.

I have a categorystructure, that looks like this:

Cat1
- sub 1.1
- sub 1.1.1
- sub 1.1.3
- sub 1.1.5
- sub 1.2
- sub 1.3
Cat 2
- sub 2.1
- sub 2.2
- sub 2.3

- anyway, you get the picture. (and no, those are not *real* names - I'm just trying to illustrate).

The problem is when I add another category to "sub 1.1" - let's call it sub 1.1.2, it is NOT placed correctly. It's appended in the bottom, and there's no way of moving it up or down in the administration module. It's a real pain, if you have no idea what you indexing will eventualle evolve to in time. Alphabetic sorting is *very* important to me, as that's a great part of the logical buildup of the menu.

I've tried cutting -> pasting the category, but it ends up at the same place as before.
I've been looking a bit at the database and see that the indexing in the table 'faqcategories' are forward-numbered - but can't seem to change the indexing, so it really makes sense.

Have some of you guys made this happened one way or the other?
I really miss the "aktion=movecategory" you can do on main categories...

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

you're right, moving sub-categories isn't really smooth in phpMyFAQ. I'll try to make it better in 1.5.

Hallo!
