Upgrade 1.3.10 -> 1.5.0 RC1

Post by fish »

Guten Tag! Never posted here but find this software extremely useful. Very nice work. Skipped the 1.4 release and decided to try and go right to 1.5 and maybe help with uncovering any remaining bugs. Not sure if the following is one:

Running php PHP 4.3.10, MySQL 4.0.17 on Windows 2000/IIS5 (sorry). When attempting to use install/update.php all is well until Step 4/5 and get

phpMyFAQ 1.5.0 RC1 Update (Step 4 of 5)
Notice: Undefined variable: PMF_CONF in E:\Program Files\phpMyFAQ\1.5.0\lang\language_en.php on line 502

Notice: Undefined index: db in E:\Program Files\phpMyFAQ\1.5.0\install\update.php on line 354

The file ../inc/config.php was successfully updated.

and on Step 5 of 5
Notice: Undefined variable: DB in E:\Program Files\phpMyFAQ\1.5.0\install\update.php on line 389

Notice: Undefined variable: DB in E:\Program Files\phpMyFAQ\1.5.0\install\update.php on line 390

Fatal error: Invalid Database Type in E:\Program Files\phpMyFAQ\1.5.0\inc\db.php on line 61

Hi,

thanks for testing. Could you please post your config.php and data.php after the update. Please remove sensible data from data.php.

bye

I have the same error in 1.4.6 (when upgrading from 1.4.5)
But it is only a warning, and the rest works fine.

Still a problem with 1.5.0 final

Post by fish »

Still get the same errors and bogus data.php and config.php are created with final release of 1.5. Suggestions how to get around this?

Upgrade to 1.5.3 Kinda Works?

Post by fish »

Downloaded and followed same procedure with 1.5.3 release with same backend configuration. Still get same PMF_CONF errors in Step 4 of 5 but Step 5 of 5 is clean...

BBCode conversion ran pretty smooth but I am unsure about the "Additionally you have to reorder your categories" statement in the documentation; 1.5.3 does not "see" or display any of the 1.3.10 categories except under the "Edit Records" in the Admin pages. I can recreate categories and reassign all my FAQ articles (did this with one), but this is tedious and I would rather not. More importantly, I also get a nasty

Notice: Undefined variable: restriction in E:\Program Files\phpMyFAQ\1.5.3\admin\menue.php on line 37

in each of the menu items on the left of the admin pages which makes them a mess and difficult to use. Tried adding a new user with admin privs and logging in to make this go away but got no love.

Otherwise things appear reasonably normal and the enhancements are fantastic. Any suggestions to clean up this install would be appreciated. Danke Schoen!

hm, this can happen if you're upgrading from 1.3.x to 1.5.x. It does not harm the update.

hm, maybe the update didn't get the languages and so the language flags in the category tables were empty. These flags have to be filled.
More importantly, I also get a nasty

This is a known bug in 1.5.3 and will be fixed in 1.5.4. It's fixed in the daily stable snapshot tomorrow.

Thanks for the timely reply. I suspect you were correct in the update not seeing the language flags; I modified the lang field in faqcategories table and category_lang in faqcategoryrelations with SQL UPDATE statements and everything seems to work fine. Also had to manually update the parent_id field in faqcategories to preserve the hierachy which was lost in the update.

I guess I will wait for 1.5.4 and try to further confirm stability before enabling the site for production use. Looks like we are close to retiring 1.3. Thanks again, and very nice work.
