tinyMCE formatting

Just recently found phpMyFAQ, downloaded Portia (2.6.17) and have started using it.
I have been used to using tinyMCE with another - now defunct - FAQ/KB app, but I'm having problems with the version in phpMyFAQ in that if I paste text into the text box and then try to highlight some text, say a heading, after selecting the appropriate heading type I want from the drop-down, all of the text in the text box, even the parts not selected/highlighted, are converted to have the heading font,weight etc.
Looking at the HTML code, it shows that the heading tags are simply applied to all of the text.

This is something I find very unexpected and wrong (and really disappointing) from my experience with tinyMCE to this point.
Hopefully, some one can point out to me what I need to do to fix this problem because it is a show stopper.
The only change I have made is to list the categories alphabetically.
